Celebrating and teaching the arts in spectacular garden venues

The Pewaukee Area Arts Council hosted its 2021 Art & Garden Tour during the week of July 19 to July 23, 2021. Nearly 500 guests participated in a dozen art-infused garden experiences, which also included horticultural expert Melinda Myers as a celebrity guest on the Saturday tour – a big draw! Thank you to all our sponsors – especially to our key sponsor Ellenbecker Investment Group.

As an organization, we met our goals:

  • To support the arts in the Lake Country community

  • To bring awareness of the arts through the beauty in nature

  • To offer creative opportunities to experience the arts

  • To teach art classes in the community

  • To provide venues for PAAC artists to sell artwork and fine crafts, and for performing artists sing and play instruments

  • To give local businesses and individuals an outlet to support the arts community

During the weekdays leading up to the Saturday daylong tour, we welcomed 123 attendees to participate in tours and workshops during the days and evenings – two events per day. The evening sculpture garden tour celebration at artist Joel Pfeiffer’s Hartland garden drew 150 attendees. The daylong Saturday tour welcomed 175 paid attendees to the five-garden Lake Country tour.

In addition, 117 volunteers, sponsors, artists, planners and more offered their talents, time and generous donations. Thank you!

Last year’s event was a great success. We raised $18,000 (netting $14,000) to allow PAAC to offer high school scholarships, creative contests like the Waukesha County-wide Showcase of Art for high school- and college-age students, and other art experiences in the community like Gingerbread House decorating with local children.

Planning for the 2022 Art & Garden Tour

The Pewaukee Area Arts Council planning team is working through the details to host the 2022 Lake Country Art & Garden Tour. It’s sure to be another excellent artistic venture for the community. For next summer’s tour, we decided to extend the events throughout the summer – approximately eight separate, standalone events that combine the arts and gardens. These events will continue to feature Lake Country gardens, businesses and artists – running from spring through summer.

Ideas for the 2022 tour may include: a boat/garden tour of Pewaukee Lake, sculpture garden at Joel Pfeiffer’s home, classes with the Wisconsin Floral Foundation that combine floral and arts, wine/food tasting, 24-hour play (plan in 24 hours), plein air garden painting party, writing event, glass garden stakes class and working to have Melinda Myers return.

Thank you!

Thank you to the 2021 tour planning team: leader extraordinaire Juli Garton, Julia Jaegersberg, Jen Herro, Barb Kelsey, Mary Weber, Patty Buck, Terri Weis, Shelley Mehmert, Chris Steinmiller, Anne Raskopf, Teresa Spencer, Lindy Kanavas, Terri Field and Laura Bernarde.

Please let us know if you’d like to join the planning for the next tour or to become a garden sponsor.
